Spring is here!
Spring is finally here. I think I feel this way every year at this time of the year. Sick of the cold weather and ready to get outside and enjoy the warmer months. I love this great state of Michigan, but I'm still not much of a winter person. I much prefer spring, summer and fall....and if I could, I'd just plain skip the winter part!

The photo above is of  my kids playing on the hammock at the cottage, in the beginning of April. The sun was beginning to set and the trees in the background were brilliant in the sunlight. It was in the low 60's that day, and we took advantage of the weather to take a walk and clean the sticks and some of the trash in the yard, that had been hidden by the winter snow.

The spring snow melt made things interesting around here this year. For one thing, our drive back to the cottage was almost impassable because of the deep mud. Four wheel drive was an absolute must, if you dreamed of making it in or out of there. Forget about driving a car back there! We had a professional road grader go back there once the frost finally broke and now the road is in good shape.

We faired better than many people did in the county. I saw many long driveways as bad as our's (at the cottage) and people parking way back by the main roads and hiking it up to their homes. Some people even experienced flooding conditions because of the quick melt. The water just didn't have anywhere to go! I know of at least one road that completely washed out, when the culvert under the road blew out and created a deep trench. There was a photo in the local newspaper showing the damage.

Of course, we were in need of the snow that we received this winter. Some of the lakes in the area have been low over the past few years because of the lack of rain and snow. This year I think we might have caught up! This was actually a normal winter this year. It's been a long while since we've experienced snow like this, that actually stayed throughout the winter.

The kids can't wait for things to warm up to that they can go swimming. Our daughter is already asking if she can swim in the pond! I had to explain that the ice just melted off of the pond a couple days ago! She'll have to wait a couple months!

We are planning a trip to Disney World next month. The kids can't wait! This will be their first time down to Disney, so it will be very special. We'll be there for a week and we are going to try to visit all of the parks. The kids ask us just about every day if we are going there tomorrow. Each day seems to be a countdown.

Don't worry! While I'm gone, Don Kehoe and Jean Boyd will be taking care of things at the office for me. Jean will be answering all of my email for me, as well. Of course, I will still have my cell phone with me. So if you need to get a hold of me, you can leave me a voice message. (I won't be carrying my phone with me during the day, but I will be checking my voice messages in the evening).

As for real estate, I've been staying quite busy. The real estate market is good and the interest rates are still low. Vacant land and waterfronts have been the hot items this year. To make things easier for my buyers (and sellers), I've been working on my web sites so that information can be more easily found on the Internet. (I have 5 web sites now). I've found that these tools have been very useful to my clients and customers and that I'm constantly improving the information on these sites.

Sincerely,
