| Merry Christmas! | ||||||||
| I'm hoping that you had a wonderful 2003! It's hard to believe how fast the year has gone by. It seems that the years go faster and faster with each passing year. I had a good year. I met lots of wonderful people and kept myself more than busy. We are looking forward to the holiday season and... of course, so are our kids! The hustle and bustle has already begun, with company Christmas parties, sending out Christmas cards, arranging visits with friends and family... and of course, the shopping marathon! Jim & I spend WAY too much time in Toys R' Us the other day! It's funny what a toy store can do to normal adults. Sometimes they turn adults into kids for a brief moment. Jim had a sword fight with one of the clerks, while testing out which play swords were better. Then Jim and I found each other slugging it out in the Incredible Hulk isle with some demo foam Hulk hands that make noise when you punch each other. Jim said that he hadn't felt that good in years. Something about punching the heck out of each other and not getting in trouble for it. LOL! With all of the goings on, it's sometimes easy to forget about what the season is really all about. It's not really about all of the gifts you get or how much food your eat....it's not about the candy, the Christmas trees and all of the great sales going on at the stores! It's about the spirit of giving, loving your neighbor, forgiveness and of course, a very special birthday! To each individual the season may mean something different to them. Whatever your beliefs, I hope that you have a wonderful, warm holiday with friends, family and maybe even some strangers along the way! As for the past month, I've been keeping myself busy as usual. We spent the first part of the month trying to get the rental cottage ready for the winter months. With last winters harsh cold, we found out the hard way that the cottage wasn't insulated nearly well enough. We blew insulation into the attic and sealed up some of the drafty areas of the house. We had the gas company set in a much larger propane tank so that we would hopefully not run out of fuel like we did twice last winter. Then in the middle of November Jim and I went deer hunting. Usually we head on up to the Upper Peninsula, but were unable to since we had renters in the cottage. So we picked a beautiful area just about 7 miles west of where we live. There were a lot of deer out there. On the first day I saw 7 deer. One doe I saw twice that day and up to 6 times the entire season. She always came out of the swamp to my right to feed on a fallen cedar tree. Come to find out that she seemed to be fairly tame, or maybe just plain too young and stupid. There were a couple of times that I had to get up and leave because I had to be back in to pick up the kids from the babysitter. Both times she just stood there and watched me from about 50 feet away, as I walked out of the woods. It never even bothered her that I was there. On November 19th I decided to go out hunting by myself that morning. The deer seemed to be really moving that morning. The first deer I saw was at around 7:30 am. It was a large doe that came out of the swamp. A few seconds later, another deer came out behind her. At first, I thought is was another doe, but then I realized that it had a nice rack on top of it's head! Well... I made the mistake of NOT taking my time on the shot. I aimed and pulled the trigger without giving much thought to what I was doing. Needless to say, I must have flinched...because I missed the deer! He jumped up a little and trotted into some cedars...but not like a deer that had been hit. I figured that I would wait a little while before looking for him...just in case. While I was waiting, about 3 minutes later, another deer appeared on my left. At first I thought it was a doe, but then it started to walk in a half circle, coming around facing me. Then I realized that it was a spike buck! Being that I wasn't sure weather I had actually hit the first buck, I decided to take the spike. After all, it would be meat in the freezer. I got my buck! After taking the spike, I decided to get up and see if I could find any evidence that I had hit the bigger deer. I couldn't find any blood or the deer. I searched a wide area where the deer had headed, but nothing. Oh well.... I'm sure he will be there next year. Well.. That's about all the excitement I have to share for November. I wish you a Wonderful Holiday Season and a very Happy New Year! Sincerely, Ivie Baker Kehoe Realty Inc. Gladwin Michigan 989-426-7112 http://GladwinRealEstateAgent.com |
