About Gladwin, Michigan
Gladwin County offers a wide variety of lifestyles and activities. From several lakes and rivers to beautiful public and private lands, Gladwin is a scenic
area providing it's residence and visitors with quiet living and recreation. This queit town is located only 2.5 to 3 hours from Detroit, Ann Arbor or Lansing.
That's a perfect distance for getting away from it all, but still not having an overly long drive.
Gladwin County has some of the largest lakes in the area. Secord Lake is over 1800 acres and is part of the Tittabawasse River system. Wixom Lake is
close to 2000 acres and part of the same river system. Lake Lancer in Sugar Springs is approximately 780 acres and neighboring Lake Lancelot is
appoximately 230 acres. These are some of the best all sports lakes in the area.
Gladwin also has 1000's of acres of state land, attracting many visitors for hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, ATV and many other outdoor activities.
The city of Gladwin is located at the junctions of M-18 and M-61. Situated on the Cedar River, this city started around 1875 during the lumber boom,
taking on the name of the river. It later was renamed after the county when it was discovered another city had the name of Cedar.
Gladwin has grown slowly but steadily over the years, both as a crossroads town and with many small auto manufacturing firms moving to the area. It
also is supported by tourism, with visitors coming to the many lakes and streams nearby.
